Roles within our School Community

St Monica's Primary School is fortunate to employ a team of fully qualified professionals, dedicated to the spiritual, academic, physical and social well being of our students. The staff take on many responsibilities in addition to the quality education of pupils in their classes. A general overview of such responsibilities follows:-
A.P.R.E. (Assistant to the Principal Religious Education)
The A.P.R.E. is responsible for overseeing the Religious Education component of the School's curriculum. The A.P.R.E co-ordinates the School's liturgies and any other religious celebrations organised by the School during the year. Such performances include the Christmas play and Easter celebrations. The A.P.R.E. also writes a column in the School's newsletter each week.
The A.P.R.E is also responsible for the pastoral care of the school. This includes counselling people in times of need and development of the School's Pastoral Care ethos.
Curriculum Co-ordination:
An experienced classroom teacher is employed to assist the principal in the formulation and review of all Key Learning Areas (K.L.A.'s) They are responsible for assisting teachers with their planning, resources ordering, collation of data and monitoring student performances. This teacher works closely with all classroom teachers. The Key Teacher is also responsible for liaising with the Curriculum Officers at the Toowoomba Catholic Education Office.
The Key Teacher is also responsible for organising training sessions for parents who are interested in becoming tutors in the school's 'Support - a – Reader' and 'Support – a – Writer' programs.
Teacher Librarian
St Monica’s enjoys the support of a fully qualified Teacher Librarian. This officer has a variety of roles within the School including:-
Physical Education
A Physical Educational specialist is currently on staff. This teacher is responsible for the organisation of a coherent Physical Education curriculum at St Monica’s. This teacher takes each class for a specialist lesson once a week in accordance with the Queensland Syllabus guidelines. Individual teachers may then conduct follow up lessons with their own classes.
Learning Support Teacher
St Monica’s offers support to all of its enrolled students through comprehensive planning, teaching, assessment and reporting processes. The classroom teacher maintains responsibility for the education of each child in their class. In addition to this, an experienced teacher works at the School on a part-time basis in the role of Learning Support Teacher (LST).
The LST is responsible for the implementation and review of the School’s Learning Support Program. The LST assists classroom teachers with identification of students in need of support and appropriate strategies to support learning using available resources. The LST will also assist teachers with formative assessments and resources as needed.
The LST withdraws students in very small groups to provide intensive support for students with learning support needs. This support is both academic and pastoral, offering an important opportunity for students to experience success with their learning.
Music
A music specialist is currently on staff. This teacher is responsible for the organisation of a coherent Music curriculum at St Monica’s. This teacher takes each class for a specialist lesson once a week in accordance with the Queensland Syllabus guidelines. Individual teachers may then conduct follow up lessons with their own classes.
Instrumental Music Teacher
Students from Grades 3-7 are able to participate in the school's instrumental program. Our instrumental teacher provides tuition in piano, wind, brass and percussion instruments. The program runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tuition costs are in addition to the quarterly school fees invoices. Please note that the payment of school fees must take precedence over the payment of instrumental tuition fees. Children will not be able to participate in the instrumental program if parents are unable to meet the financial obligations to the school.
Specialist Services
The School also has access to a variety of Learning Support Specialists including Speech Therapists, Guidance Counsellors and Occupational Therapists, all of whom visit the School on a regular basis.
Administration Assistant
Duties covered include:- the administration of financial records, student, staff and family records, budgeting considerations, phone and office reception and the invoicing and receipting of school fees.
Prep Aide:
The school employs a Prep Aide for 30 hours per week. This is well above the entitlement of Ed. Qld schools of 15 hours per week. It is also above the average aide hours for Prep in the Toowoomba Diocese of 20 hrs per week.
Library Assistant
A library assistant is employed for 15 hours per week. Duties include:- cataloguing resources, book restoration and protection, assisting teachers with planning for resources and bulk loans, weekly student returns and borrowing, assisting children with information/literacy needs including appropriately accessing the World Wide Web.
Teacher Aides:
In addition to the Prep & Library hours the school provides classrooms with approximately 60 additional hours of support. Our highly qualified and experienced aides work closely with our teaching staff to assist all students in their academic endeavours, particularly in the areas of literacy, numeracy and speech.
Cleaners:
The school employs two experienced and hard working cleaning staff. One for the early Years classrooms and the other is responsible for the Year 3- 7 classrooms and surrounds.
Principal
The Principal is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the School.
All decisions regarding the administration of St Monica's Primary School are taken by the Principal who may consult with interested parties as part of the decision making process. The Principal works closely with all School staff, the Parish Priest, CEO personnel and parents where appropriate, in the execution of his duties.
The Principal is part of the Executive of the School's Parents and Friends' Association and of the School Board, and as such, works closely with these parent groups towards the improvement of the schooling offered to students enrolled at St Monica's.
Parish Priest
The Parish Priest is the spiritual leader of the school community. He works closely with the Principal and A.P.R.E. and is involved in School life.
Father liaises with the A.P.R.E. in relation to the development of the faith community, sacramental program, pastoral care and School liturgies. Father is also a member of the Executive of the P & F Association.
The Parish Priest produces a Parish Bulletin which is sent out to the Parish community. This outlines upcoming School and Parish Mass times, important dates etc.
The Priest's residence is located at 75 Lorrimer St, Oakey, Q, 4401. Father can be contacted on (07) 4691 1043.

- Providing support to staff in the selection and purchase of resources;
